IAAH MEMBER PICTURES & BIOGRAPHIES
Here's some great pictures from T.J.
This was from a trip February 8th, 2006. The
girl in the photo
was Sandy Daley, one of our flight attendants from that trip, who we lost
two days later in her first helicopter lesson. Totally incompetent
helicopter CFI... criminally incompetent really.. neither survived.. The
rainbow wasn't spotted until after the picture was taken.. After we
returned to the mainland, Sandy told her friends that is was the best trip she
Here's me getting checked out in
NASA's 757 that they bought
to replace the aging 737-100 that they had used in all the thunderstorm and
turbulence tests of the 70's. This particular model 757 was the first one
delivered to Eastern and the second one ever built by Boeing. After it was
sent from Mirana Storage Facility in Arizona, to Seattle for a C-check,
Boeing workers, stripping it down, pulled off the cabin skins and discovered
nearly 100 kilos of cocaine, which had been sitting in the plane for about
3yrs, locked up... You know -someone- got a bullet for that! Boeing called
DEA, who then tried to impound the plane. NASA, also a Gov't agency said
"you can't confiscate a Gov't airplane.. You can have the coke tho.."
On December 21st, 2005, my first trip to
Maui, at the
Equal Time Point. I was really jazzed abt my first time being over the
Pacific.. Was pretty spectacular.
I started hamming in 1936 as W9YLB, photo of shack in
Independence, MO shows National NC-101X and homebrew rig.
Other photo is "MA" at BN DL operating position in the 40's.
In 1940, went to work for Braniff Airways as a
point-to-point CW and Air-ground operator at DL. Ended
career with Braniff 48 years later. Was flight radio
operator during WWII flying Goose Bay Labrador to
BW-3 Greenland, JI TX to Panama canal and all over the U.S.
Tragically BN bankrupted 1981, came back 1985 only to
bankrupt again after I retired in 1988. I remained
employed by BN during 1st bankruptcy, kept computer
